INSPIRED

I am a walker.  I guess you would call me more of a trekker.  I love long distance walking and when the opportunity came up to become a part of Houston’s Bike to the Beach with other organizations, I said “Why Not!” and signed right up.

The last time I was on a bike was 27 years ago. In fact, at this moment I don’t even have a bike that works! However, I am inspired.  I am inspired by the opportunity to raise funds and create greater awareness for autism and other disABILITIES through Bike to the Beach. And I am even more inspired by our 22 Brookwood Citizens. These men and women are already training to ride 6 miles or 12 miles each on a two wheel bike, tandem, three wheel bike, side by side bike, and hand crank bike to raise awareness, as well as to raise money for Brookwood as members of the Brookwood Interdependence team.

At the end of the work day I can look out my window and see our Citizens riding their bikes around Fondren Circle — some on three wheelers, tandems, and two wheelers.  Karen and Christine ride their side-by-side bike. Karen is blind, however she can pedal. Christine does not have use of her legs, however she can see. Talk about an amazing duo!  What a great team!   It is not easy….they are working hard….all of them with their own disABILITY…doing their best….giving their all….and they deeply inspire me. If they can do it, I can give it my best and ride too.  They are my inspiration and why I am riding. I learn so much from them every time we are together.

We would love to have you join our team as a rider or maybe even donate to the Brookwood Interdependence Team (no contribution is too small!)  Come join our team in any way you can and let our Citizens INSPIRE you!
